Finding My Side Hustle
When I started exploring side hustles, there weren’t many that fit my requirements — make money using my creativity that didn’t involve storing inventory or purchasing equipment with little to zero operating costs.
I explored Amazon Mechanical Turk, Amazon retail arbitrage, starting a blog, data entry, nutritional supplement independent sales. Each required little creativity, lots of work and no promise of substantial profit. I continued looking over a 6-month period and finally explored the print-on-demand merchandise industry.
Print-on-demand has been around for a while, but it was new to me. It works like this:
Create a design within a graphic design software (I use Adobe Illustrator)
Upload your design
Select merchandise styles and colors
Share a link to your product with friends
You make money every time someone purchases a shirt. The platform you use also receives a small cut. You can set how much profit you will make per shirt, but typically you can expect to make between $6 and $10.
The beauty of this side hustle is that even if your designs suck, it costs you nothing to upload them and see what happens. You can publish designs relentlessly every day or not publish for months. And the best part is once you publish a design, they are out there indefinitely, so if anyone stumbles upon it and purchases one, you get paid.
If you are creative and have been looking for a way to channel that creativity to make some extra cash on the side, explore the world of print-on-demand merchandise.
